A typeface is not finished until it can set Ọ̀yọ́, Ọ̀ṣogbo and Ńnàmdí without borrowing a letter from another font.

How a face is made

From a street sign to a font file

Lettering on the street

Most of our faces start with a painted sign, a bus or a market stall we photographed.

Pencil first

Letters are drawn by hand at large size before a single point is placed.

Thousands of pairs

Every pair of letters is spaced and kerned, including the marks over and under vowels.

Set in three languages

Proofs are set in Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa text and printed before release.
