A first session

What it is like to come in

A quiet waiting room

A small waiting room with water, plants and nobody else's appointment overlapping yours.

Start wherever you like

You do not need to know what to say. The counsellor will ask a few questions and listen.

How we might work

Near the end, you talk about whether to meet again, how often and for how long.

No pressure to book

Take a few days to decide. You can book a second session whenever you are ready.

Getting started

From an enquiry to a first session

  1. Enquire

A short form or a WhatsApp message. Say as much or as little as you like.

  2. A short call

Twenty minutes to ask questions and find a time.

  3. First session

Seventy-five minutes, in person or online.

  4. Decide together

Whether to carry on, and how often, is always your choice.

        Over the weeks

Every person is different. This is only a rough shape.

        1. Week 1

          First session

Talking about what brings you here, and agreeing how to work.

        2. Weeks 2 to 5

          Regular sessions

The same day and time each week, so there is a rhythm.

        3. Week 6

          A review

What has been useful, what has not, and whether to carry on.

        4. When you are ready

          Ending

Endings are planned together, never sudden.

        Questions

Is what I say kept private?

Yes. What you say stays between you and your counsellor. The only exception is if someone's life or safety is at serious risk, and your counsellor will explain this in the first session.

        Is this an emergency service?

No. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call the emergency services now or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number. Some people come a few times, others for longer. You decide, and we review together.

        Can I choose my counsellor?

Yes. Tell us in your enquiry if you would prefer a man or a woman, or a particular language.
