Locs are not rushed. We start them right, keep the roots strong and tell you honestly when to leave them alone.

The loc journey

From coils to mature locs

Every head is different. These are the stages most people pass through.

  1. Months 0 to 3

    Starter

    Coils or twists hold their shape. Wash gently and keep the parts clean.

  2. Months 3 to 6

    Budding

    Small knots form inside each loc. A little frizz is normal and good.

  3. Months 6 to 12

    Teen

    Locs puff up and shrink a little. Retwist less, not more.

  4. Year one on

    Mature

    Locs drop and hang. Now they grow in length you can see.

How a starter appointment goes

  1. Consultation

    Twenty minutes looking at your hair, your routine and the size of loc you want.

  2. Wash

    A clarifying wash so the hair starts clean.

  3. Part and start

    Square, brick or free-form parts, then coils, twists or interlocks.

  4. Care card

    You leave with a care card and a date for your first retwist.

Questions

How long does my hair need to be?

About 5cm for comb coils, 8cm for twists and 10cm for instant locs.

How often should I retwist?

Every four to eight weeks. More often can thin the roots.

Can I swim or go to the gym?

Yes. Rinse with clean water afterwards and dry the locs fully.
